Mr Ibu hails from Enugu State, Nkanu West L.G.A, Nigeria in 1961. He grew up in Enugu state but in 1974, after the loss of his father, he moved to Sapele to stay with his brother. There in Sapele, he became a domestic worker so that he could get money for his Education.

He worked as a hairstylist, and a photographer and he also worked in a beverage company. He successfully finished his secondary school education and later got admission into the College of Education in Yola, but he dropped out due to lack of money.

Lack of money did not stop Mr. Ibu from furthering his Education so as soon as he was financially stable, he was enrolled in the Institute of Management and Technology IMT located in Enugu State.

Mr. Ibu joined the Nigerian Movie industry in 1998 but he was not given high roles. Then. in 2004, he rose to prominence after the release of the comic movie “Mr. Ibu” where he played the role of the father of a troublesome son as played by Osita iheme.

The movie “Mr. Ibu” was taken to another interesting level when it was acted in London with the title, “Mr. Ibu in London” Mr. Ibu has also acted in more than 200 Nollywood movies.

Mr. Ibu got married twice. His first marriage was in 1998 unfortunately, things went bad between them and they separated. In October 2023, John Okafor disclosed that he had a condition that would require him to amputate one of his legs. He added that he noticed the illness while working with other Nollywood actors and actresses.
