Betta Chimaobim Edu who hails from Abi Local government area in Cross River State was born in Lagos state to the family of Mr Emmanuel Eke, who was a businessman working with an Engineering firm, and her mother a stay-at-home and hardworking wife.
Out of five children, Dr.Betta Edu is a twin with a brother. Recounting he upbringing, she revealed her father became a missionary after they returned to Nigeria as a disciplinarian and her parents ensured they concentrated on their studies as children.
Dr Betta Chimaobim Edu completed her First school leaving Certificate and Common entrance in 1995 at Charles Walker International Nursery and Primary School.

In 2015, Dr.Betta Edu was appointed Special adviser to the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Benedict Ayade on Community and Primary health care making her the youngest person to be appointed a special adviser. In 2020 she was appointed chairman of the Cross River State COVID-19 Taskforce, same year she was made National chairman of the Nigerian Health Commisuners Forum.
In March 2022 Betta Edu became the youngest person to be made national women leader of the All Progressive Congress Party. Another Leaked Memo shows the minister ordered Oluwatoyin Madein, The accountant general of the federation to transfer money from the account of the National Social Investment Office to the private account of Bridget Oniyelu, the accountant of a federal government poverty intervention project called Grants for Vulnerable Groups, a project under Mrs Edu’s ministry.
Speaking through her media aide, Rasheed Zubair, Mrs Edu maintained that the act is legal in the country’s civil service and alleged that she was being targeted for her stance against corruption.
Mrs Edu has come under criticism from Nigerians and many citing Chapter Seven, Section 713 of Nigeria’s Financial Regulations 2009 which states that “Personal money shall in no circumstances be paid into a government bank account, nor shall any public money be paid into a private account.” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended her and asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a thorough investigation.
